Outpouring Story: The word outpouring came to me when I was painting this moon. The way the water moved the color on the paper was free flowing and this painting came about in the most organic way. I’ve never completed a painting so quickly, it was truly meant to be. I believe it was the holy spirit moving during the time. Outpouring of love, of hope, of life, that is what this painting means. God Breathed.
Broken Vessels Inspiration: The moon is not a source of light. It is a vessel of the sun’s light. In the same way, we are also vessels and have control of what we reflect onto one another. Are we vessels of goodness and compassion, of love and light?
The gold designs of these paintings are inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, a process whereby artists put broken ceramics back together with gold fill. The practice is built on the idea that embracing flaws and imperfections leads to a stronger and more beautiful piece. The gold fill tells a story of the piece’s valuable history, and the same also happens with our heart. Through healing and forgiveness, we can acknowledge our brokenness and accept the renewed version of ourselves. Our past brokenness is part of our present and future story.
The vessels, although once broken, are now whole and each tell a story of revival while they reflect the sun’s light. “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your goodness and glorify your Father in heaven.” —Matthew 5:16 (edited)
